Motorola didn't give us many Razr Fold accessories — here's how I worked around it

Motorola released the Razr Fold with impressive hardware, but its accessory lineup is much smaller than that of Google and Samsung. 

There are fewer official cases, chargers, and add-ons made specifically for the device, which means many owners will need to look beyond Motorola's own products. 

Fortunately, that isn't a major problem. Many of the best Razr Fold accessories come from third-party brands that offer magnetic cases, MagSafe-compatible accessories, and other universal products.

If you considered getting the Motorola Razr Fold but are still hesitant about the lack of official accessories, fret not! With the right setup, you can access far more functionality than Motorola's first-party lineup.

Motorola may not offer the same accessory ecosystem as Samsung or Apple, but that doesn't mean Razr Fold owners are limited. A few simple additions can unlock access to hundreds of third-party accessories and significantly improve the overall experience.

The easiest way to expand the Razr Fold's accessory options is to use a magnetic Motorola Razr Fold case.

However, finding the right case for this book-style foldable isn’t as easy as I thought.

While more brands now offer MagSafe-compatible options, they vary significantly in magnet strength, fit, thickness, and hinge protection. 

That's why it's worth choosing a case that offers reliable magnetic alignment and wireless charging support if you plan to use accessories like power banks, wallets, car mounts, or desktop stands. 

If you're shopping for a magnetic Razr Fold case, look for features such as:

• Strong, properly aligned magnets for reliable accessory attachment

• A slim design that doesn't make the foldable feel bulky

• Precise cutouts and a secure fit

• Support for wireless charging (if you plan to charge wirelessly)

• Durable materials that provide everyday protection

Choosing the right one depends on whether you value minimal bulk, extra protection, or the strongest magnetic connection for accessories.

If you already have a case you like, a magnetic ring adapter is another option. These adapters are thin metal rings that stick to the back of a compatible case, allowing it to work with many MagSafe-compatible accessories. They can be a more affordable alternative to buying a new magnetic case.

The downside is that ring adapters are not always as reliable as cases with built-in magnets. Alignment may not be perfect, the adhesive can wear down over time, and wireless charging performance may vary. Moreover, they often have adhesive stick-ons that leave marks when you remove them.

Some Razr owners have discussed these trade-offs on Reddit, sharing their experiences with MagSafe ring placement, charging compatibility, and adhesive durability.

The discussion shows that magnetic ring adapters can work well, but they often require more experimentation than a dedicated magnetic case.

Many of the best accessories for the Razr Fold aren't made by Motorola at all. Once MagSafe compatibility is added through a magnetic case or adapter, a wide range of chargers, battery packs, stands, and other accessories becomes available.

The Motorola Buds+ pair naturally with the Razr Fold and offer features such as active noise cancellation, long battery life, and quality audio performance. Their compact charging case makes them easy to carry, while the noise-canceling features help create a more focused listening experience during travel, work, or daily commutes. 

The best accessory for the Razr Fold is arguably the hinge itself.

Traditional smartphones often need stands, tripods, and mounts for hands-free viewing. The Razr Fold can already do many of those things on its own.

Partially folding the phone creates an instant tabletop stand for watching videos, joining video calls, taking photos, reading recipes in the kitchen, or following workout routines.

This flexibility reduces the need for accessories that many slab phones depend on. While Samsung and Apple users often buy stands and mounts to create these experiences, the Razr Fold can handle many of them natively.

Instead of trying to recreate another ecosystem, it's often better to take advantage of what makes a foldable unique in the first place.

Motorola's accessory ecosystem may be smaller than Samsung's, but that doesn't mean Razr Fold owners are stuck with limited options. 

Adding MagSafe compatibility through a magnetic case opens the door to a huge range of chargers, battery packs, mounts, and grips. 

Combine those accessories with the phone's built-in foldable flexibility, and the Razr Fold becomes far more versatile than its modest first-party accessory lineup suggests.
