Yet with Samsung's next Unpacked event expected within weeks, many buyers are torn between buying the Z Fold 7 now and waiting to see what the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra brings.

While some buyers want the latest and greatest, others care more about value and practical upgrades that make a noticeable difference.

Samsung has seen this play out in its foldable lineup before. When the Galaxy Z Fold 6 launched, plenty of Fold 5 users decided the changes weren't compelling enough to upgrade immediately. Instead, they focused on value, proving that newer isn't always the best choice.

Here are the reasons I'd consider waiting instead of buying the current generation.

Battery life has been one of the biggest weaknesses of Samsung's Fold phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 can easily last a full day for light users, but if you're constantly multitasking, watching videos, gaming, or using AI features, you may still need to recharge before bedtime.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is rumored to increase battery capacity from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh. A bigger battery doesn't always mean dramatically longer battery life, but paired with a more efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip, it could help the phone last longer on a single charge.

If you've been waiting for Samsung to improve battery life, this may finally be the upgrade worth waiting for.

The narrow cover display has been a common complaint about the Samsung Fold series.

If the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra adopts a wider design, typing messages, replying to emails, and browsing the web could feel more comfortable without needing to unfold the device.

Interestingly, many commenters seem satisfied with the Fold 7's current design and don't see a strong reason to upgrade. Still, if you've always found the cover screen a bit cramped, the Fold 8 Ultra could be worth waiting for.

The main camera is already excellent, but improving the ultrawide camera would make the overall camera system much more complete. If you enjoy taking a variety of photos instead of relying on just the main lens, this upgrade could be a big reason to wait.

Samsung continues to add more AI features with every new Galaxy phone, and the Fold series usually gets the best experience because of its large screen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will likely launch with Samsung's newest Galaxy AI features, along with software improvements designed for multitasking and productivity. 

Some of these features may eventually come to older Fold models through updates, but Samsung usually keeps a few of its newest AI tools exclusive to the latest flagship. 

One of the biggest reasons I'd buy the Galaxy Z Fold 7 instead of waiting is the price. Samsung's newest foldables almost always launch at full retail price, while the previous generation quickly receives trade-in offers, carrier deals, and retailer discounts.

If you're upgrading from an older Fold or another Android phone, those savings can easily outweigh the Fold 8 Ultra's rumored upgrades. 

Unless you absolutely need the newest hardware, buying the Fold 7 today gives you much better value for your money.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 isn't an outdated phone, it's already one of Samsung's best foldables. It introduced a thinner design, upgraded performance, better displays, and improved cameras compared to earlier Fold models.

For most people, it already handles everything you'd expect from a premium foldable, whether that's multitasking, gaming, streaming, taking photos, or getting work done. 

The Fold 8 Ultra will likely improve on these areas, but the Fold 7 is already an excellent device that doesn't feel like a compromise.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to include a larger battery and upgraded camera hardware. While those additions are welcome, they could also make the phone slightly heavier or thicker.

If you value comfort, the Fold 7 already strikes a great balance between portability and productivity. It's lighter, easier to carry in a pocket, and comfortable to use for long periods, especially when using the cover screen with one hand.

Even if the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra introduces meaningful upgrades, those improvements may come with a higher launch price.’

If you can wait another month, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could offer upgrades like a larger battery, faster charging, and an improved ultrawide camera.

However, if you find a good deal on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it remains an excellent foldable that delivers most of the same core experience while giving you access to a wider range of accessories, including thin phone case options. 

For most buyers, the Fold 7 offers better value today, while the Fold 8 Ultra may be worth waiting for if you want Samsung's newest foldable.
