A Samsung Galaxy Ring reportedly swelled while on a user’s finger, and it got so bad that he had to go to the hospital.
The story came from tech creator Daniel Rotar (ZoneofTech). He posted photos showing the ring bulging and peeling apart, all while still stuck on his finger.
To make matters worse, this incident occurred just before his flight. Instead of traveling, he was stopped at the airport and later treated at the hospital. Finally, doctors used ice and medical gel to dislodge the ring.
That’s a scary situation. Something designed to track health ended up creating a health risk.
Ahhh…this is…not good.

My Samsung Galaxy Ring’s battery started swelling. While it’s on my finger 😬. And while I’m about to board a flight 😬
Now I cannot take it off and this thing hurts.
Any quick suggestions @SamsungUK @SamsungMobileUS? pic.twitter.com/LOO1kSlQUw
Battery swelling in electronics isn’t new, but on a ring? That’s a whole new level of risk. Unlike a smartphone you can set aside, a smart ring is strapped to your body. The moment something goes wrong, there’s no escape.
Even the tiniest battery expansion presses directly against the wearer’s skin, and that can quickly go from uncomfortable to dangerous.
Here's what people have to say about this issue online:

Daniel tagged Samsung in his posts. Samsung UK reached out privately, and later Samsung released a short statement. They said cases like this are very rare and suggested a few ways to remove a stuck ring, like soap and water, cold water, or in extreme cases, having a professional cut it off at a safe spot.
It’s a careful answer, but for many people, it might not feel like enough reassurance.
At ThinBorne, we care deeply about design. We love thin, light products that look and feel great. But here’s the truth: design should never come before safety.
This Galaxy Ring story is a reminder for every tech company. New ideas are exciting, but if they put people at risk, trust can disappear overnight.
We still believe smart rings can have a big future. But that future needs to be built on safety, honesty, and reliability.
For us, it’s never about rushing to be the first. It’s about building trust by being safe, reliable, and delivering designs that people love without second-guessing their safety.
