Motorola officially released a protective Razr Fold case (2026): Is it worth your $50?

Prior to Motorola's official release, Razr Fold owners had a surprisingly limited selection of cases to choose from.

For a foldable that competes directly with Samsung and Google, the lack of first-party accessories felt like an oversight. Buyers were largely forced to rely on lesser-known third-party brands, many of which offered varying levels of quality, fit, and protection.

That's finally changing.

Motorola has officially released its own Razr Fold Protective Case, giving owners a first-party option designed specifically for the company's newest foldable. Let’s take a closer look at its features and see if it’s worth the price.

Many foldable cases use adhesive strips to keep the front frame in place. While they work, they can be frustrating to install and leave residue behind when removed.

Motorola skips the adhesive entirely. The official Razr Fold case simply snaps onto the phone, making it easier to install and remove. If you like switching cases regularly, this is a surprisingly useful feature.

Some foldable cases make side buttons harder to access, but that's not the case here.

The fingerprint scanner remains fully exposed, and the Moto AI button is easy to find and press. Unlocking the phone, adjusting volume, and launching AI features feel just as natural as they do without a case.

Motorola's case adds very little bulk, helping the Razr Fold maintain its sleek profile.

The downside is that the hinge remains completely exposed. Unlike some third-party cases with built-in hinge guards, Motorola leaves this area unprotected. If hinge protection is important to you, there are better options available.

The official case protects the frame and back of the phone, but it doesn't include a screen protector.

If you want extra protection for the outer display, you'll need to purchase a separate screen protector, which adds to the overall cost.

One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of MagSafe-style magnetic support.

Unlike some third-party Razr Fold cases, Motorola's case doesn't work with magnetic wallets, battery packs, stands, or car mounts. If you already use magnetic accessories, this could be a dealbreaker.

A recent Reddit discussion found that some third-party magnetic Razr Fold cases can also cause wireless charging alignment issues. 

What stood out to me is that adding magnets isn't always a perfect solution. Some users reported inconsistent charging speeds and alignment issues with magnetic third-party cases, which shows that not every MagSafe-style implementation is created equal.

A $50 range phone case is reasonable to me as I love to invest in good, quality accessories. The important question is – is it worth the money?

Since it is a first-party case, I have some confidence it’ll be worth it. It fits perfectly, has a slim design, and provides basic protection. It gets the job done. But the lack of MagSafe is a dealbreaker for me.

At this price, I would have expected features like MagSafe compatibility, hinge protection, or an included screen protector. Instead, Motorola focuses on the basics.

Unless you specifically want a Motorola-branded case, many third-party alternatives offer more features for the same price—or even less.

Motorola's official case won't be the right fit for everyone. If you want MagSafe compatibility, additional drop protection, or simply more features for your money, there are already several third-party Razr Fold cases worth considering.

ThinBorne is arguably the most premium Razr Fold case currently available. It uses aerospace-grade 600D aramid fiber, measures roughly 1mm thin, weighs less than an ounce, and includes full MagSafe compatibility. It was designed specifically for users who want protection without sacrificing the premium feel of the Fold.

Poetic prioritizes protection. The case features MagSafe compatibility, a built-in screen protector, textured grip surfaces, and military-grade drop protection. It also adds considerably more bulk than Motorola's official option. This is a strong choice for users who treat their foldables like everyday work devices and want maximum protection.

If you’re looking for rugged protection for your Razr Fold, I found this brand to be quite the only good option. It includes hinge protection and MagSafe-compatible magnets for magnetic chargers, wallets, and car mounts. It does add more bulk to the phone, but for a lower price than Motorola's official case, you get more protection and better accessory compatibility. 

Besides this case being the only official Razr Fold case, I don’t find it paticularly enticing to buy. I like the clean shell and clear design, but there are more options on Amazon I would rather spend on.

For almost $50, it feels fairly basic in terms of protection and features. If you're simply looking for a slim clear case to show off the Razr's design, you'll find plenty of similar options available.

The absence of MagSafe compatibility, hinge protection, and a bundled screen protector makes the official case feel somewhat conservative compared to alternatives from ThinBorne thin phone case, Poetic, and FNTCASE.
